In 1985 the B-Junioren at Bochum took both prizes on offer to them, the German youth championship and the DFB-Pokal der B-Junioren in the same season. The A-Junioren had gone first, in 1969, and came back in the 1988/89 season for the DFB-Pokal der Junioren.

The parent body predates football itself. It began as a gymnastics club in 1848; the football department was added only in 1911, and the modern VfL Bochum 1848 e.V. took its present shape in 1938. Black and white are the registered colours, yet the nickname that stuck is Die Blauen — The Blues.

The side plays in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West, the division it won back to back in 2004 and 2005.
