Cambridge City

That loss still shapes how the club talks about itself. City played for over a century as tenants of nobody, then in 2013 lost the City Ground on Milton Road after former chief executive Arthur Eastham and an Isle of Man company connected to Brian York pushed through its sale. The High Court later found the club had been defrauded and awarded it half the development profits, but the ruling came too late to save the ground. City spent the following decade shuttling between Histon's Bridge Road and St Ives Town's Westwood Road, playing home fixtures as a guest.

Founded in 1908 as Cambridge Town, the club took its current name in 1951 once Cambridge itself became a city, and the white shirts and black shorts that gave it the nickname the Lilywhites have stayed constant through all the moving. Neil Harris wore them first: he came through at City in 1996, scored 29 goals in 51 appearances, and left for Millwall in 1998 for £30,000, a fee that looked small once he became Millwall's record goalscorer.

In November 2024, the wandering ended. Cambridge City moved into the FWD-IP Community Stadium in Sawston, a 3,000-capacity ground a few miles south of the city whose name the club carries, and for the first time in over a decade, home is a settled address again.
