Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001, four years after their first pitch — no expansion franchise in Major League Baseball history has done it faster. They beat the New York Yankees in seven games. Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson split that year's Series MVP award between them; Johnson went on to take four straight Cy Young Awards in Arizona.
Luis Gonzalez was there for that title too, and stayed long enough to become the franchise's leader in hits and RBIs. Brandon Webb won a Cy Young of his own in 2006 and backed it up in 2007, part of the stretch that carried the club to five NL West titles between 1999 and 2011. A second pennant, in 2023, came without a championship to match it.
Chase Field seats just over 48,000 in Phoenix, in a division built around the long flight to Los Angeles and Denver — the Dodgers and the Rockies are the rivalries that matter most. Ken Kendrick owns the club; Derrick Hall runs it. On the field, the current core is built around Corbin Carroll and Zac Gallen.
