«Knights»
Twice the club has been crowned champions of National League 1, in 2005 and again in 2014.
The name itself marks a break. In 2006 it turned professional and rebranded as Doncaster Knights.
Tomas Francis started out here before going on to play prop for Wales, and in 2013 Tyson Lewis scored the fastest try ever recorded in rugby union, in 7.24 seconds, wearing Doncaster colours. Dean Richards and Ian McGeechan have both coached the club, a pairing of names that says something about how seriously Doncaster has been taken at a level below the Premiership.
The Yorkshire Derby against Leeds gives the club its sharpest rivalry, but Castle Park itself carries a second one: Doncaster Knights share the ground with Doncaster's rugby league club, and matches against Sheffield Eagles are fought out as the South Yorkshire derby on the same pitch the union side calls home. Castle Park holds just over 5,000, blue, red and white in the stands, in a city where rugby league has traditionally had the louder voice.
