Every meeting with Long An still carries the weight of the Mekong Delta Derby. Founded in 1976 in Cao Lãnh, the club took the nickname Golden Flamingos and settled into yellow and blue, colours that stayed attached to the province.

Two V.League 1 titles anchor that record, won in 1989 and 1996. A third-place finish in 2010 marked the last time the side reached that level of the top flight; twice since, in 2006 and 2014, the club won promotion by taking the V.League 2 championship.

Trần Công Minh built his name inside that history, making over 200 appearances for the club he came to represent. Hoàng Vũ Samson arrived from outside Vietnam and left a different kind of mark, scoring 43 goals in 49 games.
