Flamengo PI

Senator Raimundo Melo de Araújo Leão put his name behind a new club in Teresina in December 1937. For decades the club's measure was River-PI. River had the upper hand for years until the 1960s, when Flamengo broke through: titles in 1964 and 1965 ended that hegemony, and the 1964 final is remembered for Salvador's winning goal. Those years, with a side built around Zé Carneiro, Maçarico and Mano, became the club's golden era.

Seventeen state championships followed across the decades, from 1939 to 2009, leaving Flamengo second on the all-time list in Piauí, and four Copa Piauí titles came alongside them between 2008 and 2013. The club also had its runs against national opposition, reaching the Round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil in 2001 and again in 2006, both times undone by Corinthians.

That record has not carried into recent seasons. Flamengo dropped into the state second division three times in less than two decades, in 2005, 2007 and again in 2022, when the team took a single point from fourteen matches. The club now plays out of the Série B of the Campeonato Piauiense, still without a website of its own, running its affairs through social media and the local press while president André Russo works to get it back among the state's top sides.
