Geestemünde

The championship came only once, in 1981, when FT Geestemünde topped the Landesliga Bremen.

What plays in Bremerhaven's Geestemünde district today carries that history without being the club that made it. ESC Geestemünde formed on 1 January 2015, when the football sections of FT Geestemünde, ESV Bremerhaven and SC Schiffdorferdamm merged into one operation. FT Geestemünde itself went back to 1902, founded by ship carpenters from the Tecklenborg yard, and had already survived one interruption: dissolved in 1933, it was not revived until 1948. The other name folded into the 2015 merger, Geestemünder SC, had its own earlier run — champions of the Unterwesermeisterschaft in both 1909 and 1910.

The new club inherited more than a badge. In its first season under the merged structure, 2014/15, it finished second in the Bremen-Liga and won promotion to the Oberliga.

Matches are played at the Harlos Arena, which holds 2,000. FT Geestemünde reached the DFB-Pokal on more than one occasion, including 1978/79, 1987/88 and 1993/94. No individual player from that era is remembered beyond the team sheets, and no nickname has attached itself to the club at any point in its history.
