Hapoel Rishon LeZion

The one league title Rishon LeZion have ever collected came in 1993–94, in the Liga Artzit, the second tier. Two runs to the Israel State Cup final never produced the trophy itself: beaten by Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1946, and again in 1996, 4–1, though that defeat still carried the club into the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, where it went out in the first round.

Staying in the top flight has been the harder habit. Promoted for the 1977–78 season after finishing fourth in an expanded National League, the club's best finish since remained sixth, in 1980–81, before dropping straight back down. The pattern repeated itself in 2002–03, when a bottom-place finish sent them out of the Premier League, and again after 2010–11, when promotion lasted only a single season.

Ownership changed hands more than once as the club tried to steady itself: a municipal-run side until 2008, when investors Raviv Sapir and Ron Hadad bought in and restored its old name, then sold on to former player Ayel Barkovich in 2015.

The football section itself dates to 1929, eleven years before the club took the formal registration that still stands.
