HV Quintus

The women's team of HV Quintus took the Dutch Eredivisie in consecutive seasons, 2006 and 2007.

The men's side has followed a rougher line: promotion to the BENE-League in 2015/16, relegation three seasons later, then readmission in 2021. Their high point came without silverware attached — third in the Eredivisie in 2022/23, with a Dutch Cup semi-final reached the previous season under René Zwinkels.

Matches are played at the Eekhout Hal, a hall opposing sides have nicknamed "Hel van de Heul" for the way the metal roof throws the noise back at them. Green Park Aalsmeer, Houten, Bevo and Hurry-Up supply the regular opposition, without any one of them carrying the weight of a fixed derby.

Quintus itself goes back to a front room in a farmhouse, where the club was put together on 25 April 1950. It took its name from its place in the order of things: the fifth handball club to form in the Westland area, a number that also sits inside Kwintsheul itself, a village name built from the Latin for fifth and the old word for a bridge.
