Inter Lagos

Lagos does not lack for football clubs, but few of them are as young as Inter Lagos, which arrived in 2023. Lanre Vigo, Olumide Fayankin and Gatumi Aliyu set the club up together, and it stepped straight into competitive football in the Nigeria National League that November.

The Pride of Lagos, as the club is known locally, plays out of the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, a 10,000-capacity ground that carried the name Onikan Stadium before it. In its first full season in the NNL, in 2023-24, Inter Lagos reached the Super 8 stage before the title went to Beyond Limits. The Lagos State FA Cup told a different story: in 2024 the club drew Ikorodu City 0-0 in the final and held its nerve through a 5-4 penalty shoot-out, then beat the same opponents again a year later to retain the trophy. That second final also carried the club into the Nigeria Professional Football League for 2026, its first promotion since founding.

Ikorodu City remain the name Inter Lagos supporters watch for on the fixture list, but the sharper edge belongs to matches against Sporting Lagos, played as the Lagos Derby. Gabriel Ezema took the club through its first two seasons before handing over to Shakiru Biodun Giwa in March 2025.

Arinze Kingsley Nnamuchi is the name attached to that 2025 win. He came through the Star Builders Football Academy before joining Inter Lagos, and it was his performances in the Lagos State FA Cup run that year that supporters point to when they talk about the club's short history so far.
