Kaustik Volgograd

Dynamo Arena has held Kaustik's matches only since 2024, when the 1,500-seat hall on Novorossiyskaya Street opened and the club left behind the old Molodezhny facility that had served it for decades. The move gave Volgograd's handball side its first purpose-built home in the club's history.

Kaustik itself was put together in 1976 by Leonid Korostashevich and took its name from the Volgograd chemical plant that backed it. The green and red on the shirts were adopted in 2019 to match the sponsor's colours, replacing the red and white worn before that.

The club's peak came in the second half of the 1990s, when it won four Superleague titles in a row, from 1995/96 through 1998/99, and reached the quarter-finals of the EHF Champions League in the last of those seasons. Further silver and bronze followed through the 2000s, but the 2020/21 season ended in relegation. Kaustik answered it in a single year, winning the First League in 2022/23 and going straight back up to the Superleague.

Its sharpest rivalry runs south along the river, against Dynamo Astrakhan; their meetings are known locally as the Lower Volga derby.

No one is more tied to the club than Oleg Grebnev. He played pivot for Kaustik, won Olympic gold with the national team in 1992 and world titles in 1993 and 1997, and after retiring came back to Volgograd to take over as club president in 2012.
