When Mangotsfield Football Club decided in January 1951 that it could no longer afford to run a reserve side, the players who lost their places did not disband. They formed their own club instead, entered the Bristol & District League at the bottom, Division Seven, and then won it. Five promotions followed in five seasons, through Divisions Six, Four, Three and Two.
By 1990–91 the club was champion of the Western League Premier Division, and in 2004–05 it topped Southern League Division One West. Cup football has treated Mangotsfield kindly too: the Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy has been won seven times, from 1985 through to 2024. In the FA Cup, the club's furthest point has been the Fourth Qualifying Round, reached on four separate occasions, while the FA Vase brought a semi-final appearance in 1995–96.
Games against Bristol Manor Farm, Yate Town and Cribbs carry the weight of local derbies.
