Mestrino Handball Women

The old multi-sport society G.S.P. Mestrino had run in the town for thirty years when, in 2007, its handball section split off to form its own club. It took just five seasons to reach Serie A1 for the first time, in 2012, and the ride since has been unsteady: relegation in 2014 over financial trouble, promotion back in 2015, relegation again in 2017, and a return in 2019. The two closest brushes with a title came in between, third-placed finishes in Serie A1 in 2013–14 and 2021–22, with semi-final runs in the Coppa Italia in the same two seasons and again in 2020–21. Neither the league nor the cup has been won.

A run of beach handball titles stretches from 2009 into 2026. Matches against Cellini Padova and Mechanic System Oderzo, grouped together as the Derby Veneto, matter as much locally as anything in the league table. Home games are played in front of 300 people at PalaGallo, formerly known as PalaLissaro.

The name most attached to that academy is Angela Cappellaro, who came through the Mestrino ranks to win 74 caps for Italy.
