Les Aiglonnes go into this season in the Ligue Butagaz Énergie. The club took its current name in 2011, when Ange Ferracci brought the OGC Nice presidency into a handball project that had until then belonged to ASPPTT Nice. That earlier side had already done the groundwork: Nationale 3 champions in 2008, Nationale 2 champions in 2009, then Division 2 champions in 2012, the run that carried the team into the top flight under its new identity.

Since then the squad has drawn on players with real international pedigree, among them Alexandra Lacrabère and Cléopâtre Darleux, and a Coupe de la Ligue final appearance in 2016 ended in a 20–25 defeat to Fleury Loiret. The Division 1 title and the Coupe de France have both stayed out of reach.

What the top-flight finish did give the club was a rivalry with weight: matches against Toulon Saint-Cyr Var are contested as the derby de la Méditerranée.

Home games are played at the Halle des sports Charles-Ehrmann, a hall that holds around 1,450 people, in red and black, in Nice.
