Peterborough United's rivalries run along old county lines and a stretch of the River Nene: fixtures against Cambridge United carry the weight of a fixture across Cambridgeshire, while matches with Northampton Town settle a separate score further along the same river. Those occasions belong to the first team, but the under-21 side training alongside it exists largely to send players toward exactly those Saturdays.

The academy sits under a club known, since it was founded in 1934, as the Posh, wearing the blue and white the first team carries out at the Weston Homes Stadium. The under-21s train and play their own matches on a 3G pitch housed under an air dome at the Mick George Training Ground, a facility with no fixed spectator capacity — fixtures there often pass with no recorded crowd at all.

Harrison Burrows is the name the pathway points to first. He came through this side, captained the first team to the EFL Trophy in 2024, and left for Sheffield United soon after, following the route Adler Nascimento had taken to Crystal Palace a few years earlier after his own debut in 2021. The Posh won that same trophy again in 2025, a season on from Burrows' captaincy, adding to a record that also holds two Fourth Division titles from the 1960s and 70s.

The under-21 side itself competes in the Professional Development League and the Premier League Cup, competitions built for progress rather than medals, and no major honour there has come its way yet. Its job stays the same regardless: keep producing players the first team, or someone else, wants to sign.
