Plan de Cuques Women

Plan-de-Cuques go into the season back among the elite, in Ligue Butagaz Énergie, a division they reached in 2020 when the French Handball Federation awarded them the D2 title as the pandemic cut the campaign short with the club sitting top of its pool. It ended a wait of well over a decade for top-flight handball in the town.

The club won the Championnat de France D2 in 2006 and went straight up, only to finish twelfth and last in Division 1 the following year and drop straight back down. The years between were spent working back up through the third tier, Nationale 1, which they won in 2005 and again in 2016 before returning to D2.

Angélique Spincer has coached the side since 2020, the year of that pandemic-era promotion, and the two are bound together in the club's recent history. Among the players who have wintered under the yellow, green and black of Les Guerrières, Jemima Kabeya was a young French goalkeeper capped between 2022 and 2025 before her death that February at the age of 21.

Home games are played at the Gymnase des Ambrosis, where 500 can fit in, with plans on the table to take that closer to 1,200. The fixture that sharpens attention locally is against Toulon, a meeting known in the region as the Derby provençal.

Founded in 1992, the club now has to establish itself in the top flight.
