Radnicki NIS

Second place in the Serbian SuperLiga in 2018-19 remains the high-water mark for Radnički Niš . The route back to the top flight ran through three promotions in four seasons — the Serbian Third League in 2008-09, the Serbian League East in 2010-11, then the Serbian First League in 2011-12. Nothing in the club's record at that level has ever been better than runner-up: no Serbian championship, no Serbian Cup.

The team came out of the workers' movement in Niš. A communist activist, Miloš Marković, founded it in 1923, and for the first two years it played friendlies and nothing else. That origin cost it its name. Under the royal dictatorship, with repression aimed at the left, the club competed as Građanski . The old name came back the following season. War closed the club down in 1941; it restarted in 1945, and in 1946 took the name 14. Oktobar after the date Niš was cleared of the Nazi occupation.

The one European trophy arrived in 1975, the Balkans Cup, won in a final against Eskişehirspor of Turkey. Between 1980 and 1984 the club entered the UEFA Cup three times, and in 1982 reached the semi-final.

Dragan Pantelić kept goal for most of a decade from 1971, went to Bordeaux, played at the 1982 World Cup for Yugoslavia, then came back to Niš and later served as club president.

Home is the Čair Stadium on 9. Red and white are the colours, though the first sides played in green and white with a red star.
