About

The Serbian SuperLiga operates as the premier professional football competition in Serbia, governed by the Football Association of Serbia. It serves as the direct successor to the First League of Serbia and Montenegro and, historically, the Yugoslav First League. The competition distinguishes itself through a unique split-season format introduced in 2015–16. Teams play a single round-robin phase of 13 matches before dividing into two groups: the Championship Group for the top seven sides and the Relegation Group for the bottom seven. Clubs carry over points from the regular season and contest a further seven matches within their respective groups, completing a 25-match season. Relegation involves the bottom two teams dropping automatically to the Serbian First League, while the twelfth-placed SuperLiga side faces the third-placed First League club in a two-legged play-off. The top two teams from the second tier enter the top flight directly. Red Star Belgrade currently holds the title of champion for the 2025–26 season. The club has secured 12 titles since the league’s inception in 2006, including a record seven consecutive championships from 2017–18 to 2023–24. Partizan has won eight titles in the same period. The league currently features 14 teams, having reduced from 16, with plans to trim the field to 12 for the 2027–28 season. European qualification spots are distributed based on UEFA coefficients, granting the champion access to the Champions League qualifiers and other top positions to the Europa or Conference League. This structure differs from the Serbian Cup, a knockout tournament, and the Montenegrin First League, which operates in a separate sovereign nation. Sponsorship titles have included Meridian SuperLiga, m:tel SuperLiga, and the current Mozzart Bet SuperLiga.

The Serbian SuperLiga is the top-tier professional football league in Serbia, governed by the Football Association of Serbia. It is the direct successor to the First League of Serbia and Montenegro and, historically, the Yugoslav First League. The league currently consists of 14 teams, a reduction from 16, with plans to further reduce to 12 teams in the 2027–28 season. The season format involves a single round-robin phase of 13 matches, after which the league splits into two groups of seven: the Championship Group (top 7) and the Relegation Group (bottom 7). Teams carry over points from the regular season and play each other once more in their respective groups, resulting in a 25-match season. Promotion and relegation link the SuperLiga with the Serbian First League (second tier). The bottom two teams in the SuperLiga are automatically relegated, while the 12th-placed team enters a two-legged play-off against the third-placed team from the First League. The top two teams from the First League are automatically promoted. Red Star Belgrade (Crvena zvezda) is the most successful club in the SuperLiga era with 12 titles, including a record seven consecutive championships from 2017–18 to 2023–24. Partizan holds 8 titles. The current champion (as of the 2025–26 season) is Red Star Belgrade. Notable reforms include the shift from a 16-team playoff system to the current split format in 2015–16. Sponsorship names have included Meridian SuperLiga (2011–2013), m:tel SuperLiga (2018–2020), and currently Mozzart Bet SuperLiga. The league differs from the Serbian Cup, which is a knockout tournament, and from the Montenegrin First League, which is the top tier of a separate sovereign nation. European qualification spots are allocated based on UEFA coefficients, with the league champion entering the Champions League qualifiers and other top teams entering Europa or Conference League qualifiers.
