Rapperswil-Jona Lakers

Rapperswil got its own hockey team in 1945, playing as SC Rapperswil, and it took until 1973 for the club to take its present shape, when a merger with neighbouring Jona produced SC Rapperswil-Jona. The lakeside identity came later still: the Lakers name arrived in 2005, was folded into the club's official title in 2015, and the club reverted to Schlittschuh Club Rapperswil-Jona in 2026.

On the ice, the club has spent its history pushing at the door of the National League without ever quite winning the title once inside it. Promotion came in 1994 and again in 2018, the second time after a relegation three years earlier, and both promotions came with Swiss League championships attached. The closest the Lakers have come to the big prize is a pair of playoff semi-final runs, in 2006 and 2021. The 2018 season also brought the Swiss Cup, won with a 7–2 defeat of HC Davos.

The Zürichsee-Derby against ZSC Lions carries the weight of the rivalry, sharpened by a shared lake and a shared catchment of fans. Johan Lundskog now runs the bench, with Victor Rask among the players carrying the current squad.

The team plays out of the St.Galler Kantonalbank Arena, a 6,100-seat rink that has gone by other names — Diners Club Arena, Eishalle Lido — down the years, in red, white and blue, the colours the club has carried since Rapperswil first put a team on the ice.
