Sassari

Handball Sassari reached its first major final in the 2020–21 Serie A Gold season and lost it to Conversano, then did the same again two years later against Fasano. The trophy finally came in a different competition: the 2021–22 Coppa Italia, followed the next year by the Supercoppa Italiana.

That return followed a gap. The club traces its roots to 1977, when it was formed as Ichnusa Sassari, but the project folded in 2015. Luana Morreale led the relaunch in 2017, rebuilding it as Handball Sassari and, later, under the sponsored name Raimond Ego Handball Sassari.

Under Ratko Đurković the team turned that comeback into results rather than just survival, with Coppa Italia and Supercoppa wins arriving inside two seasons of each other. Albin Järlstam has been part of that run.

Matches at PalaSantoru, which holds 780 people, carry an added edge when Teamnetwork Albatro Siracusa comes to town: the two clubs' meetings are known on the island as the Derby delle Isole. Conversano and Alperia Black Devils Bolzano are the other names Sassari's supporters watch for on the fixture list.

A European campaign followed the 2020–21 domestic final, with qualification for the EHF European Cup.
