Shkupi 1927

Nobody at the Football Federation will tell you Shkupi are the same club that once played as Sloga Jugomagnat, and for European competition purposes, they aren't — UEFA keeps the two records apart. The club's own supporters, a group calling themselves "Shvercerat," disagree, and they trace their team back to 1927, when a side called Zafer was formed in the Çair district of Skopje. That side became Sloga after the war, then Sloga Jugomagnat once a sponsor came in during 1989. On paper, none of that survived into the present day: in 2012, a lower-league club named Albarsa merged with a financially ruined Sloga Jugomagnat to form what the federation recognises as KF Shkupi. Two years later, another lower-league club, Korzo of Prilep, was folded in and renamed Shkupi 1927, fixing the number onto the crest for good.

The overlap runs through the honours board as much as the name. Three of the four league titles claimed by the club were won by Sloga Jugomagnat, in 1999, 2000 and 2001; only the 2021/22 championship belongs to Shkupi as the federation understands it. Goce Sedloski, once in charge of the national team, was the coach who delivered that title. All three of the club's cup wins, in 1996, 2000 and 2004, also predate the 2012 refounding — as Shkupi, the closest the club has come is a run of quarter-finals.

Home games are played at Çair, a ground holding around 6,000 that has repeatedly fallen short of UEFA's technical requirements — the absence of VAR among them — forcing the club to shift its European nights to the larger Toše Proeski Arena. Stefan Ristovski wore the shirt there in a Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb in 2022, one of the few moments the club has drawn a marquee opponent to Skopje. Shkupi have never been a selling club in the way Vardar or Shkëndija are; most of the national team players of this era built their reputations elsewhere. What Shkupi have kept, through mergers and renamings and a federation that won't quite agree with them, is the 1927 date stitched into the badge.
