Железарница holds 3,000; the ground is sometimes listed under the name Avtokomanda.

The current identity dates to 1973/74, when the club dropped the name FK MIK — shorthand for Metalska Industrija Kale, the metalworking combine that had backed it since a 1960 merger of two works teams, Metalec and Industrijalec.

The single honour that matters sits in 2011, when Skopje won the Macedonian Cup, still the only national trophy in the club's history. There have been two promotions from the Second League, in 1996/97 and 2020/21, the second coming ninety years after the club's various works-team predecessors had already been collecting regional titles in the old Skopje and Serbian district championships of the Yugoslav era — honours that read as history rather than achievement, since they predate any Macedonian national league by decades. In Europe, qualifying-round exits have been the pattern rather than the exception: Qarabağ eliminated them twice, in 2010 and again in 2013.

Blue and white have stayed the club's colours throughout, worn at various points as stripes and at others as a plain blue shirt with a white collar. What has not stayed constant is the name on the badge — Metalec, Industrijalec, FK MIK, and finally FK Skopje, four labels for one continuous side that started, in 1960, as two factory teams deciding they were better off as one.
