Stourbridge

The War Memorial Athletic Ground sits on a cliff edge in Amblecote, and the site dictates the seating: subsidence risk on that slope brought the official capacity down to 2,035, well below the figure once quoted for the place. Stourbridge have played there since 1888, on a pitch with only three sides built up — the fourth is shared with the local cricket club.

The club started life as Stourbridge Standard in 1876 and dropped the second word within a decade or so, taking its nickname, the Glassboys, from the cut-glass trade that once defined the town. Promotion has not always followed form: league titles in 1991 and 2003 both ran into ground-grading rules that kept the club where it was.

Cup form has carried the club further than the league ladder did. The FA Cup first round arrived only in 2009–10, but by 2016–17 Stourbridge had reached the third round as the lowest-ranked side left in the competition. Closer to home, the Worcestershire Senior Cup has gone to Amblecote a dozen times since 1905.

No player is tied to the club more than Mark Bellingham, who scored 79 goals in 87 appearances either side of 2007. His son Jude came through Stourbridge Juniors before Birmingham City took him on.
