Swift Hesperange

The 2022–23 title arrived two seasons after Swift had finished third in the Nationale Division in 2020–21. A year later the side came second and reached the Luxembourg Cup final, losing it — two near misses in one campaign, after the one season where nothing slipped.

Before that, the shelf held one national trophy: the Luxembourg Cup of 1989–90. It took the club into the Cup Winners' Cup the following autumn, where Swift went out in the first round, the last-32 stage. Three decades then passed without another domestic prize.

The championship changed what the summer looked like. Swift entered the Champions League at the first qualifying round in 2023–24 and, dropping into the Conference League, reached the third qualifying round. A first-round Conference League exit in 2021–22 had been the extent of it until then.

Stade Alphonse Theis holds 4,100, which is what a Luxembourg champion plays in front of. Hesperange sits in the south of the country.

The club dates from 2 July 1916. Red and white have been the colours long enough to have been written into the name itself: for a period around 1940 the club played as FV Rot-Weiß Hesperingen.

What Swift has not managed is to make the title stick. One league championship, one cup from 1990, a cup final lost, and a European run that ends in qualifying — the group stage remains out of reach, and so does a second Nationale Division trophy.
