Szegedi VSE

Railway workers in Szeged put the club together in 1919: through name changes from Tisza Vasutas to Szegedi Lokomotív to Szegedi Törekvés, before the club settled back on Szegedi Vasutas in 1957 and, after a spell as Szegedi VSE-Gyálarét, returned to that name again in 2011.

The best of it came early and briefly. Two seasons in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, 1941–42 and 1943–44, were the only taste of the Hungarian top flight the club ever had. A third NB II championship followed in 1957.

Lajos Kocsis made his debut here at sixteen. István Sajtos did the opposite, staying eighteen years at left-back, and Géza Kalocsay, a local name through the 1940s, stayed on afterwards as a coach.

A rare recent high point came in 2022, when Szegedi VSE won the Amateur Hungarian Cup, beating VSK Tököl on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and the club has since pushed twice into the last 32 of the main Magyar Kupa. In the league, it now competes in Nemzeti Bajnokság III, in the Southeast group.
