Thun

The last time a big crowd packed Kunsteisbahn Grabengut, it was for a beating. In 2014, EHC Thun drew SC Bern into the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup, filled the rink's 2,500 seats, and watched the visitors leave with a 7:1 win.

The club has spent most of its life renegotiating its own name. What started in 1936 became EHC Thun-Steffisburg after a merger in the 1970s, then SC Thun in 1993 when it absorbed the hockey wing of SC Thunerstern, before reverting to EHC Thun in 2006. Through all of it, the crest never carried the town's castle, the usual civic shorthand. Instead it shows the Fulehung, Thun's old court jester, looking out at whoever's watching.

Promotion to the Nationalliga B came twice, in 1966 and again in 1972, the club's clearest run at the higher tiers of Swiss hockey. Simon Schenk played through the first of those campaigns before going on to coach the Swiss national team and later sit on the National Council.

Die Thuner is what the town calls them now, in black and red. Regional standing gets settled against SC Langenthal and EHC Olten rather than any single named rival, and the club leans on HC Dragon Thun to keep young players coming through. The 2015/16 season brought the 1. Liga Zentralschweiz title and a route into what is now the MyHockey League, where EHC Thun reached the final in 2022/23, filling Grabengut again before losing the series to HCV Martigny. A Swiss Cup semi-final followed the season after.
