Wiliete Sport Clube go into the season having just given Benguela its first Taça de Angola. In May the club beat Kabuscorp SC 2–1 in the final, César Cangué converting a penalty in the 42nd minute and Sidibé adding a second six minutes later before Benarfa pulled one back late on. It was the club's first major trophy since it was founded, and it came in the same campaign that saw Wiliete finish runners-up in the Girabola, behind champions Petro de Luanda.

The fixture that matters most, though, is against Académica do Lobito, billed as the Derby de Benguela even though Académica's home is technically the neighbouring city of Lobito rather than Benguela itself.

Caranga wears the captain's armband, and the squad that won the cup final drew heavily on players such as Cangué and Sidibi, both scorers in that match. Behind the first team, the Academia Wiliete Sport Clube has been building a pipeline of its own.

Wiliete , known to supporters as the Wilietes and playing in green and white, were formed in Benguela in September 2018 — a club that has already put a national trophy in its cabinet.
