Winterthur

In 1963, the club merged with local rival EHC Veltheim under a new name, Rot-Weiss Winterthur. The identity held for seventeen years: only on 22 April 1980 did the team revert to EHC Winterthur, the name it had carried before the merger.

Red and white had already been the club's colours by then, which is why the interim name fit so naturally. Home games are played in front of 2,496 seats at the Zielbau Arena.

Promotion back to the second tier came and went twice more after 1963 before it lasted: the Lions won the Swiss Amateur Championship in 2009–10 and again in 2014–15, and the second title carried them up to what is now the Swiss League, where they have stayed since.

Reto Kobach wore the shirt from 2017 to 2020 after time in the Swiss national team setup, a rare case of top-flight experience arriving in Winterthur rather than leaving it. Anthony Staiger captained the side from 2021 to 2025.

Games against HC Thurgau still draw the label Derby-Tanz.

What the club returned to in 1980 was the name it had first taken in 1929, before relegation ever forced it to share one.
