Yate Town

Yate sits in South Gloucestershire, and its football club has spent most of a century marking out that separate identity on Lodge Road, where roughly 2,000 people can fit in if the occasion calls for it. The club did not start out under its current name: it began in 1906 as Yate Rovers, won the Gloucestershire Junior Cup in 1913–14, then folded in the early 1930s. It came back in 1933 as Yate YMCA, dropped the churchy suffix in 1959, and only became Yate Town in the strict sense in 1969, when the club signed up as a founder member of the Gloucestershire County League.

The best spell on the pitch came at the end of the 1980s, when the Bluebells took the Hellenic League Premier Division in successive seasons, 1987–88 and 1988–89. More recently they took the Southern League Division One South in 2024–25, and they have made a habit of the Gloucestershire Senior Cup, winning it four times since 2005. Two FA Cup first-round appearances, in 2012–13 and 2021–22, stand as the club's clearest brushes with the professional game.

Boxing Day means Bristol Manor Farm at Lodge Road. The one true financial landmark in the club's history is a person rather than a trophy: Mike Davis, sold on to Bristol Rovers for £15,000, still the record fee Yate Town have taken for a player.
