Zaglebie Sosnowiec

Handball there traces back to 1945, to Górnik Zagórze and Górnik Klimontów, which merged in 1976 into Górnik Sosnowiec. The handball section came along as part of that merger, and it was under that name, in the 1980s, that the team built its strongest era on the back of coach Robert Kwak.

By 2011 the section could no longer stand on its own. Financial trouble forced a second merger, this time with SPR Zagłębie Sosnowiec, and the handball team took on the Zagłębie identity it carries now, playing in red and black under the nickname Zagłębiacy.

The football club across town won the Polish Cup four times in the 1960s and 70s; the handball side has no such run to point to, and plays a division below the top flight, in the I Liga. What it has instead is a ground scaled to a team that has stayed close to its roots: the Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa MOSiR on Żeromskiego seats 710.
