Zlin Women

Sportovní hala Datart holds 2,000 seats on U Zimního stadionu. Zlín's handball players have shared the address rather than the identity: yellow and blue belong to the whole sporting city, echoed by the ice hockey side, and the women's team plays under no nickname of its own, only HC Zlín Ženy.

The club traces its foundations to 1921, long before the current league structures existed, and the women's section built its record across two different countries. Under Czechoslovakia it took the national title three times, in 1959/60, 1973/74 and 1976/77. After the split it kept winning, as Novesta Zlín in 1994/95 and 1995/96, then again in 2004/05 under the club's own name. The Czech Cup came five times between 1983 and 1997, a run that outlasted the changes in sponsor and league name around it.

Zlín also tested itself abroad, meeting CS Oltchim Vâlcea in the EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 2002. Pavla Poznarová carried that generation's name into the national team.

Since those years the league form has moved in both directions, with spells of relegation trouble sitting alongside promotions back to the top flight. Zlín now play in the MOL Liga, the joint Czech-Slovak competition, where DHK Zora Olomouc remain the fixture that matters most, the Moravian derby still the one date the rest of the calendar is measured against.
