The stadium opened in 1980 under the banner of Prince Salman before a later renaming to King Salman Sport City Stadium and, eventually, its current civic title.
The stadium sits on Prince Ahmad Street in the King Salman District.
Work through 2025 brought the ground up to date, with renovation completed that October. Al-Faisaly and Al-Fayha have called it home alongside Al-Mujazzal , the last of these tied to the ground since 1990, a decade after the stadium itself first opened.
