Am Neckarfeld
Heidelberg, Germany
Formerly: SCN-Sportgelände Neckarfeld, Lionspark am Neckarfeld
Am Neckarfeld holds its ground in Heidelberg’s Neuenheim district, a quiet corner of the city where the sport of rugby has found a permanent home. Opened in 1956, the stadium has been the home of the local club, TSV Handschuhsheim.
For a long time, the ground was known as SCN-Sportgelände Neckarfeld before being renamed Lionspark am Neckarfeld, a nod to the team’s nickname, Die Löwen . It sits at Tiergartenstraße 7, a location that has not changed despite two former names. While the capacity is cited as 1,500 in some records, others suggest 1,000. The highest documented gathering was 1,000 spectators for the 2008 German Cup final, a match where TSV Handschuhsheim defeated RG Heidelberg 24–23 after extra time.
The stadium is not a large arena, nor does it pretend to be one.
