Arena Cugir

The stadium sits on Strada Victoriei. Built in 1939 by the local mechanical plant, the ground has watched the city grow from an industrial town into something else, though the plant still gives the club its original name, Stadionul Metalurgistul. The capacity is modest at 4,000. The grass is natural, unheated.

Renovation works between 2015 and 2016 brought a new name, Arena CSO, before it settled on Arena Cugir. The club, CSO Cugir, has called this place home since their founding, playing out matches that often end in early exits from higher divisions. The website metalurgistulcugir.ro exists but is currently inaccessible, much like the memories of better days in the league. No other tenants share the space, keeping the atmosphere contained.

There is no undersoil heating, so the pitch can turn heavy in winter, slowing down the play and forcing teams to keep it simple. The stands are close to the touchline, making it easy for fans to feel the impact of every tackle. It is not a grand arena, but it is honest. The reconstruction added comfort but kept the character, ensuring that the noise from the away end still carries over the pitch. The ground does not hide its age; it shows it in the cracks of the concrete and the faded paint. It is a place for local pride, not international spectacle.
