Barrio Obrero
La Plata, Argentina
Formerly: Estadio de Estudiantes
The main ground, Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, stands within the Paseo del Bosque park. It has seen the club through four consecutive Copa Libertadores titles in the late sixties. The original wooden structures were a product of the members' own hands, with socios and board members doing the building work.
The site holds a different kind of history now. After the original stadium closed for safety reasons in 2005, it was demolished and rebuilt on the same spot. The new structure reopened in 2019, becoming the first venue in the world to receive the EDGE certification for sustainable construction. It sits on a hybrid grass pitch, a modern surface for a ground that once hosted the first major night games in Argentina after a lighting system was installed in 1937.
The current building carries the name of a former player and club president, Jorge Luis Hirschi, who also served as mayor of the city in 1932. The stadium has also hosted international rugby matches, including a fixture against England scheduled for 2025, alongside concerts by local artists.
