Los Tilos

In 2002, Los Tilos reached the semi-finals of URBA's Top 12, the closest the club has come to a senior title in eight decades. It has spent most of the years since in the lower divisions, and it took until 2024 to force its way back up, beating Deportiva Francesa to win promotion and return to the Top 12.

The club was put together on 29 January 1944 by a group of young men who first trained at Club Telégrafo de la Provincia, with Alberto Arana as its first president; formal affiliation to the Unión Argentina de Rugby followed two years later. By 1953 the group had enough behind it to buy its own ground, a plot at Calle 21 y 522 in Barrio Obrero that still carries no other name.

Green, yellow and white have marked the side since, and the nickname Los Tileros has stuck to match. What silverware there is has come from the age-grade sides rather than the first team, which still has no Top 12 or Primera A championship to its name. The rivalry that matters most in La Plata is with San Luis: the two have met in the Clásico Platense since their first senior fixture in 1980, alongside the older local needle with La Plata Rugby Club.

The player most associated with Los Tilos is Héctor "Pochola" Silva, who won 24 caps for Argentina and then coached the national team between 1983 and 1987. More recently the Tuculet family has kept the club's name in front-row conversation about the Pumas: Joaquín Tuculet, capped 55 times for Argentina, came through at Los Tilos, his brother Mateo captained the side, and their brother Segundo has played for the Pumas Sevens.
