The one championship Club Atlético Buenos Aires can point to in the top flight of Buenos Aires club rugby came in 1991, when it took the Torneo de la URBA. Below that level the club has taken Primera B and Primera C titles.

Its identity is bound up with older names. The club traces to the Buenos Aires Football Club, founded in 1867 as a football side before switching codes, which merged in 1951 with the rugby section of the Buenos Aires Cricket Club to form the club as it is known today. It is not to be confused with the Buenos Aires Cricket & Rugby Club of San Isidro, one of the founding clubs of Argentine rugby, though the two share a tangled history.

There is no invented nickname to fall back on — no "Pumas", no "Academia" — reports simply call it Buenos Aires, or B.A. What it does have is form against its neighbours: in 2024 the club beat Hindú Rugby Club for the first time in 33 years. Matches against Hindú, Newman, San Luis and Belgrano Athletic remain the fixtures that define its season, played out on the club's own ground in San Fernando.
