Los Matreros

The line that goes back a century in Morón does not run through a scoreboard. It runs through Martín Fierro. When the founders of Rugby Club Los Matreros sat down to name their side in 1928, they reached for Hernández's poem and its gaucho outlaw, and fixed the club's identity to the land it stood on — in a district still marked by the fighting for independence. The name stuck, and stuck hard: Los Treros.

Promotion has come to define the club more than any single trophy. Los Matreros reached the Primera División in 1952 and again after the 1959 Segunda División title, then dropped and climbed back more than once, including a spell as low as Primera B after 2011. The pattern held into 2025, when the club won the Primera A championship and secured direct promotion to the Top 14 for the 2026 season — a level it has never topped outright.

Dr. Alfredo Quesada ran the club for more than two decades, from 1942 to 1965.
