Barton Park

Barton Park The site itself, having been built on a former landfill by Hungarian immigrants who founded the St George-Budapest soccer club. When the new structure finally opened in May 2024, it replaced a grandstand that had been condemned and a roof that had been removed.

The old stadium, originally known as St George Stadium, hosted an NSL match on 5 March 1978 in front of 3,853 fans. It remained the home of St George FC until the club’s relegation in 1991, after which it briefly sheltered Sydney Olympic FC. The ground hosted the second leg of the 1984 NSL Grand Final, where Sydney Olympic played South Melbourne before a record crowd of 11,221. A young Ange Postecoglou played for South Melbourne in that match. In 1990, Pele made a promotional appearance at the stadium.

The redevelopment cost 51.7 million AUD and was funded by the NSW Government. The new precinct features three FIFA-standard natural turf soccer fields and a 450-seat grandstand, named the Frank Arok Grandstand, which gives the ground its current capacity of 1,500 for the main pitch. St George FC now plays its home matches in the National Premier Leagues NSW at Barton Park.
