Bezirkssportanlage Oeversberg

Bremen, Germany

Formerly: Sportanlage Oeversberg

There is no first team beyond district level attached to it, no honours board — the Bezirkssportanlage exists to give SV Grohn 1911, its second string and the neighbouring SV Kurd Bremen somewhere to train and play in Grohn, a corner of Bremen-Nord.

What changed the place in 2023 was not the stands, which nobody touched, but the ground underfoot. The city's sports authority replaced it with a microplastic-free artificial pitch, infilled with quartz sand rather than rubber granulate, at a cost that came in just under a million euros on the field alone. The wider works, ballfangzäune, resurfaced paths, outdoor exercise equipment including provision for disabled users, took the total spend to 1.2 million euros, funded through the Bremen-Fonds.

The name itself carries a small inconsistency rather than a rebrand: taz was still calling it Sportanlage Oeversberg in 1989, and the current Bezirkssportanlage designation looks less like a renaming than the city eventually applying its standard label for district grounds. Nobody has traced when the ground first opened, and no record of a notable crowd survives — the kind of gap that is normal for a 500-capacity municipal pitch that has never needed to keep count.
