The open-air design allows the city skyline to frame the game. The outfield grass has taken damage from concerts before, and the ground staff have to lay new turf to keep it playable. The capacity sits at 41,083, though that number has shifted over the years as seats were added and removed. The single-game record for baseball came on July 26, 2008, when the Tigers played the Chicago White Sox and 45,280 people packed into the stands. The highest-attended concert was Pink in August 2023, who drew over 45,000 fans for her Summer Carnival tour using the same approach. The ground was built for baseball and has never changed its name. Non-baseball events have taken place here, including a professional soccer match between AS Roma and Paris Saint-Germain in July 2017. The Metallica concert that preceded that match caused significant damage to the outfield grass, which had to be replaced before the game could proceed.
