Duffield Sports Complex (Army and Navy Academy)

The Duffield Sports Complex sits at the far south end of the Army and Navy Academy campus in Carlsbad. It replaced the old Maffucci Field, and what stands there now, since 2013, came out of a construction bill of ten million dollars, of which the Duffield family put up 3.5 million. That family did not stop there: in November 2025 they added another 2.5 million, earmarked for keeping the complex maintained rather than for expanding it.

The stadium itself carries the name Bliss Stadium, after Brigadier General Stephen M. Bliss, a former president of the academy, and it sits alongside an indoor sports centre with its own locker rooms and a separate grass field for training. The synthetic turf, lit for evening fixtures, hosts American football, soccer, lacrosse and baseball across the CIF interscholastic calendar, while the wider complex serves the academy's basketball, volleyball, wrestling, water polo, swimming, track, cross country, hockey, rugby, golf and tennis programmes — a full slate for a school of its size. The academy also leases the grounds out to outside sports groups.
