Ellis Park (LJ Hooker Mile End Sports Park)
Adelaide, Australia
Formerly: Ellis Park, Tampawardli
Mile End's ground carries the name of a council official: Ellis Park is called after Val Bertram Harold Ellis, who ran Adelaide's parks and recreation department from 1966 to 1983. The land itself belongs to a much older parcel — part of the Adelaide Park Lands, laid out from the 1830s and used in its early years as Emigration Square. The Kaurna name Tampawardli still attaches to the site alongside the English one, and since 2025 a sponsor's name, LJ Hooker Mile End Sports Park, has been added on top of both.
What the ground does now is straightforward: it is the home of Adelaide Comets FC, who field their men's, women's and junior sides here in the South Australian NPL. The club's best run came in 2018, when the FFSA Federation Cup put them into the national FFA Cup. Recent years have brought incremental work rather than a single rebuild — a facilities grant in 2022, floodlights funded in 2025 — while a 2024 proposal to fence the pitch perimeter was turned down by the council.
