Adelaide Comets

Adelaide Comets go into the last rounds of the 2026 National Premier Leagues South Australia season sitting 11th of 12 clubs.

What the club is better known for than its table position is the players it sends elsewhere. Kusini Yengi came through the Comets' junior ranks before Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers carried him on to Portsmouth, and he was the first Comets product to be capped for Australia. His younger brother, Tete Yengi, went the same way through the same system to Livingston in Scotland. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos left for Motherwell and an Australia call-up of his own. Valentino Yuel, also raised in the junior teams, now plays for South Sudan.

The club began in 1994, when eight men led by Jim Tsouvalas formed Adelaide Raiders and won the SAASL second division that same year, then the first division in 1997.

By 2011 they had won the Premier League as minor premiers and stepped into the top flight, the competition now called NPL SA.

The local derby is against Adelaide City, played out in NPL SA rather than in the older Adelaide Derby that usually means Adelaide City against West Adelaide.
