The 2018 national title came down to a single afternoon against Lions FC from Queensland, settled 2-1. The reward was a place in the 2019 Australia Cup, where the club reached the round of 32.

The club exists because a group of Italian immigrants in the Adelaide suburb of Newton — Joe Natale and Peter Centofanti among them — decided in 1963 that they wanted a side of their own. Registration followed in 1964. The red and white came from a local outfit, Glen Roy Football Club, and the nickname followed the colours: Red Devils.

Promotion took time. The Third Division was won in 1966 and again in 1971, the Second in 1973, 1978 and 1993, the First not until 1986. The name above the door never changed through any of it.

Between 2013 and 2024 the state league was won six times, but the cup competitions have been less forgiving. The Federation Cup was taken in 1994, with Salisbury United beaten 3-0 in the final; the finals of 2009 and 2023 both ended in defeat.

Joe Mullen coached here, and the family stayed: his son Daniel went on to play as a defender for Sydney and Adelaide United.

Home is the Steve Woodcock Sporting Centre, part of the Newton Village Sports Complex, which holds 3,000.

The 2023 Australia Cup gave the club its most satisfying win of recent years — Macarthur FC, of the A-League, knocked out by a state-league side.
