Sturt Lions

Sturt Soccer Club dates to 1907. Dutch immigrants formed Orange Soccer Club in the early 1950s, and the two merged in 1963 as Orange Sturt, a combination that did not last. Blackwood Soccer Club, founded in 1977, ran junior sides there as Adelaide Hills Hawks from 2003. The present club registered as Sturt Lions Football Club in 2011 and entered South Australia's senior leagues under that name. The colours carry the two founding threads forward: orange for the Dutch-founded Orange Soccer Club, blue for Sturt Soccer Club.

State League 1, the tier below the state's premier division, has produced three championships for the Lions — 2017, 2020 and 2025 — each one a promotion into the NPL SA. The top flight itself has proved harder to crack: a preliminary final in 2021 remains the best run there. Lino Fusco, technical director and head coach, presided over all three State League 1 titles. Gonzalo Rodríguez, an Argentine forward at the club from 2019 to 2024, scored 63 goals in 104 appearances, and Michael Marrone, an Adelaide United veteran, joined in 2021. Fixtures against White City Woodville, West Adelaide and Adelaide Comets carry more weight than the rest of the calendar, grouped locally into what is billed as a Rivalry Round.

Karinya Reserve, on Shepherds Hill Road in Eden Hills, has been home since the Blackwood years of the late 1970s.
