Para Hills Knights

Craig Goodwin went on to Adelaide United and to the Socceroos, and he is not the only one: the McGowan brothers, Ryan and Dylan, and Michael Marrone also passed through Para Hills before international football found them.

The club began life as the Para Hills Community Soccer Club, joined the South Australian Soccer Federation two years later, and won the state's third-division championship in 1967. The name Para Hills Knights arrived in 1994, three decades in.

Most of what the club has won has come from the second tier. Four Division Two championships, in 1976, 1990, 2006 and 2012. The closest it came to the top was 1980, runners-up in the Division One championship in a year when it also took the Top Four Cup and the Coca-Cola Challenge Cup.

Home since 1977 is The Paddocks on Maxwell Road, a ground for about a thousand people. Games against Adelaide Croatia Raiders — the North Adelaide derby — fill it.

In 2020 the Knights struck a partnership with St Mirren in Scotland, and a year later the youth player Lochlan Czapla made the move to Paisley. For a club founded by Robert Eldridge, John Eldridge, Chick Harris, John West, Andy Balter and Malcolm Owen to give the suburb a team, it is a long way from Nelson Road Reserve.
