The pitch here started life under a different sport. Mario Correa built the ground as an Olympic baseball stadium, opened in 1991 with 2,500 seats and expanded toward 7,000 for the 1992 Games, when it staged the baseball final between Cuba and Chinese Taipei. Football arrived only in 1999, when architects Esteve Bonell and José María Gil converted the site and reopened it as a football ground on 20 March that year.

The municipal name has not changed since, a rarity for a ground its size in Catalan football, where sponsors usually attach themselves within a decade. Set inside the Feixa Llarga sports complex in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, it has hosted fixtures well above the level of its regular tenant, CE L'Hospitalet, now playing in the fifth tier: matches of the 2002 Women's Rugby World Cup, a 2011–12 Copa del Rey tie in which Barcelona found a way through for a 0–1 win, and a 2019 friendly between the Catalonia and Chile women's national teams.
