Estadio José Amalfitani

They call it El Fortín de Liniers. Floodlights followed in 1969, put in by Siemens, and by then the place had a new name: the club renamed it after José Amalfitani, its president for thirty years, on 7 December 1968.

The rebuild that shaped what visitors see now came a decade later. Between 1977 and 1978, ahead of the World Cup, a second tier went on the South Stand, boxes were fitted, a new scoreboard went up and the press positions were rebuilt. The ground took three group matches that summer, among them Austria's 2–1 win over Spain and Sweden's 1–0 win over the same opponent. Spain never got going in Liniers.

The largest crowd it has held, though, came for rugby rather than football: 41,286 on 31 May 1986, when Argentina beat France 15–13 in a test match. The stadium has kept that connection since, hosting Los Pumas and, later, the Jaguares in Super Rugby.

It opened on 11 April 1943 with a friendly against River Plate that finished 2–2, Juan José Ferraro scoring the first goal here. Between matches it has taken Queen, Nirvana and Metallica. The pitch is now hybrid grass, natural fibres mixed with synthetic, laid in a renovation reported in August 2024.
