Estadio Cuscatlán
San Salvador, El Salvador
Construction began in March 1971, but the ground did not open until July 24, 1976, when the El Salvador national team hosted Borussia Mönchengladbach. The attendance record of 55,000 set that day has not been broken in a sporting context, though the official capacity for FIFA matches remains 44,836. The stadium has not carried a commercial name since it opened, though locals still call it *El Monumental*. The pitch is natural grass, fitted with a French drainage system and automated irrigation.
The 44,836-seat bowl has hosted the 1995 and 2007 UNCAF Nations Cup finals and the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. It also staged a 2024 friendly between El Salvador and Inter Miami CF, a match that saw the hosts find no answer to the visitors' experience.
The stadium is located in the Reparto Los Héroes neighbourhood, off Calle Los Viveros. It has survived several renovations, the most recent in 2020, and a tragic crowd crush on May 20, 2023, during a domestic cup quarter-final between Alianza F.C. and C.D. FAS.
